Netvibes

Well I have now explored the Netvibes world - created my account, added in my RSS feeds and some blog sites, played around with color and layout and along the way I discovered a few things. 1. This is actually fun. 2. I can see how having all your favorite blogs, feeds and sites in one place would be very convenient and time saving. 3. Surprisingly -I think I will probably continue to use Netvibes after this learning program is completed. 4. I am probably going to spend more time than I have to give on this. I can see how some people can get addicted to this kind of stuff!

Habits of Lifelong Learners

As I reviewed the list of 71/2 habits of lifelong learners the habit that is the hardest for me is most definately habit #4. "Having the confidence in myself" to step out of my comfort zone and stretch myself beyond my self imposed boundaries is very difficult. Risk taker is not a word I would use when describing myself. Last year I have made "risk taking" an objective that I was going to seriously concentrate on. As I take more risks my confidence level also increases.
The easiest habit for me is habit #1 "Beginning with the end in mind". Knowing the final destination helps me succeed in the journey to get there. Whenever I begin a new learning venture the goal or outcome I want to achieve is foremost in my thoughts. It is also what I focus on when the going gets tough. It motivates me to keep going.

My first blog entry ever!

The blogging world is new to me but I am willing to explore it as I start on this journey of self discovery. I consider myself a fairly private person and posting my inner thoughts and personal information out in cyber world has not interested me previously. I know that blogging has become very popular with my high school aged children and their friends as well as with the college students I assist every day. It is important for me to understand and appreciate the importance of blogging in their lives and also how it is changing how we all communicate with one another. You never know - I may discover that I love blogging so much that it becomes addictive.
I believe strongly in the importance of lifelong learning. It is part of the reason I love working in a college library environment so much. It is an ever changing & evolving workplace that presents me with many learning opportunities. I also enjoy facillitating lifelong learning in our patrons. Keeping up with the new & evolving technologies that our patrons are using is essential if we want to remain an important and relevant part of their lives.
